Happy Wednesday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Joe and I have gone through our share of “travel computers.” It’s run the gamut from a Windows laptop that weighed a ton to a MacBook Air to a Chromebook and from an iPad Mini to an iPad Pro. Charlie from Running With Miles writes about his favorite “computer” for traveling, and Joe, who is currently using the same equipment, shares several of his sentiments.
- The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is one of our most favorite attractions at Walt Disney World. Michael from Inside The Magic gives a history, not only of that classic attraction, but how it’s been updated and changed in several of the other Disney parks, including the ones overseas.
- Michael from Michael W. Travels writes about a mother who is suing Spirit Airlines because they removed her 15-year-old child from a flight (the two were seated separately, many rows apart) without even telling her. Joe and I don’t have kids (but as you may have noticed, I still have opinions). If it was just a matter of splitting the kid up from the parent on the plane, that would be fine, I’d think, as long as (s)he was mature enough to be able to handle it. But to boot a 15y/o off the plane and not even tell the parent? No. Just…no.
- Joe, the points and miles person in the family, is not a fan of my Amex Green card. I keep it for one reason and one reason only – I know the number by heart. So if I somehow ever found myself without my wallet, I would still have that card as a possible option. Anyway, Play Your Cards Right on Travel Update reports that the good ol’ green card is rumored to get a few more perks in the not-too-distant future. Take THAT, Joe! (and even if it doesn’t happen, I’m still not getting rid of the card)
- On some of the message broads I’m on, I frequently see tourists asking how to get from JFK International Airport to their hotel in NYC. I often suggest taking the AirTrain and subway, because it’s, by far, the cheapest and almost always the fastest way to get from one to the other. Joe even wrote a post that includes directions and photos of how to do it. But Gilbert from God Save The Points reports that you can now take that trip via helicopter and the price actually isn’t all that outlandish right now.
- Joe and I are theme park fans, going as far back as before Six Flags Great Adventure was owned by Six Flags. We even love the really cheesy parks like the now-defunct Nara Dreamland. So this post about eleven short-lived Disney & Universal attractions you may not even remember by Brian of Theme Park Tourist (I remember 9 of them and experienced 3 of them) really caught my interest.
- There’s a lot of nakedness in the world of travel. More than you’d think, anyway. I mean, there’s the naked guy who got locked out of his hotel room. And the naked guy at the Alamo. Oh, and don’t forget the half naked woman who said vampires destroyed her hotel room. So when Gary from View From The Wing wrote about the naked guy who tried to board a flight, I had to read the article. It didn’t disappoint.
- Anna from Frequent Business Traveler writes that a British Airways flight bound for Düsseldorf wound up landing in Scotland instead. You just can’t make this stuff up!
- And finally, you can sometimes come across an airline employee who makes really funny announcements, or who’s just creative enough to put a smile on your face before you go on the plane. It sounds like Matthew from Live & Let’s Fly recently had his own experience with a flight attendant that made his day, and I’m glad!
