People are bringing their pets with them virtually everywhere nowadays. I mean, it’s just not unusual anymore to see a smaller pet on a plane in a carry-on bag. And more and more hotels are willing to accept pets, too.
Back when I was moving from New York to Florida in late 2000, the internet was not what it is today and I had a heck of a time researching hotel chains, finding places where my dog, Pippi, a 10-year-old toy/mini poodle, could stay with me. I discovered that virtually all Red Roof Inns were pet-friendly, so that’s the brand where we stayed the night the movers took our stuff and at our overnight “sorta halfway point” in Somewhere, South Carolina.
Nowadays you don’t have to go from hotel website to hotel website – it’s all listed on one convenient spot…
A website called PetsWelcome.com has been “teaching old dogs new trips” since 1997 (which means that yes, I’m now aware that I apparently didn’t search hard enough in late 2000 LOL!) and it makes looking for a place for you and your pet to spend the night (or a whole vacation) really easy.
If you’re looking for a brand name hotel chain, they have all of the pet-friendly ones in one list, and you can even search by specific indicators, such as weight or maximum pet fee.
Some people would rather stay at a vacation rental home and they have listings in about 20 states, and about the same number of cities, that are pet friendly.
They also have lists of and links to pet friendly vacation destinations, college towns and even the surrounding areas of NASCAR tracks. Oh, and if you’re interested in finding restaurants & cafes, bars, dog parks, wineries, etc., that are pet friendly, they have lists of those places, too.
They’re even branching out to include some international locations.
My favorite part is the road planner they have. You just plug in a starting and ending point, how many miles away from your route you’re willing to go, how many miles between each stop in the route, and your route and they’ll list/map all of the pet friendly hotels on the way.
So yeah…PetsWelcome.com if you’re traveling with your pet and need this kind of info, it’s a handy website to be aware of.
