Seemingly out of the blue, I very recently received an email from Delta informing me of their new partnership with Ticketmaster. If you purchase your tickets on Ticketmaster by going through the Delta portal, you’ll receive 1 SkyMile per dollar spent. As a special bonus to celebrate the new partnership, you’ll earn 3 SkyMiles per dollar spent until August 31, 2019.
You have to give Delta some credit. While on one hand they’ve eliminated reward charts and raised prices for awards on their own flights and on partners, they’ve also offered flash sales for award redemptions, higher sign up bonuses for their co-brand credit cards and are now offering a way to earn points that’s different from any other program. They’re at least trying to give the appearance that there’s some value to be had in the program. Your Mileage May Vary as to whether you believe that to be true or not.
To take advantage of this offer, you need to start your ticket purchases on this website:

While I had given up on SkyMiles, they always end up offering just enough to get me interested again.
I’m not saying this offer alone is enough to get me to try to collect infinite amounts of SkyMiles. It’s more that I’d rather have the option to redeem SkyMiles than not have that option if I should need it. I’ve put off buying tickets to see Gavin DeGraw at Hard Rock Live and Sara Bareilles at the Amway Center because I’m generally lazy and procrastinate a bit. But now my tardiness will be rewarded because I’ll earn SkyMiles for my purchases. #Winning
Of course, I’ll stack purchasing these tickets with the $2.25 credits I still have left over from the Ticketmaster settlement and I’ll use my Citi Prestige and earn 2x points for entertainment purchases (until that goes away in September) on top of the excellent ticket protection coverage the card offers.
Besides those tickets, Mystery Science Theater 3000 is going on tour again and I’d have to get those tickets through Ticketmaster as well. If I flew to New York to see the premiere, you know I’m going to see the live show when it comes to town.
Enough about me. What other tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster?
Hamilton
Sharon (a.k.a. “don’t call me a Hamilton superfan”) wouldn’t complain one bit if I suggested at looking to get tickets to go see her (maybe) favorite, Broadway musical again. (Note from Sharon: For the 8th time? Well….maybe. Twist my arm a little. And I am NOT a superfan…)
Not just Hamilton, but another of our favorite shows also sell tickets on Ticketmaster. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. We’ve seen it in London and again in New York. Both times it was absolutely amazing.
Final Thoughts
I’m not suggesting that earning one, or even three, SkyMiles per dollar spent on Ticketmaster purchases is life-changing. Depending on how you value Skymiles, this could be worth 1% to 3% to even 6% back if you get a great value for your SkyMiles. Instead, I’m saying that this is a chance to earn some miles where it was pretty difficult to earn miles before and for me, that’s always a good thing.
