Broadway shows are expensive. So much so that I’m always looking for ways to find them cheaper. I did find a bunch, which I outlined in “How To Get Cheap Tickets For Broadway Shows in NYC” while back, but a friend of mine just turned me on to another, in a relatively unusual place…
Restaurant.com has been around since 1999. It’s always been similar to Groupon or Living Social, where you can get experiences for a cheaper price. But in Restaurant.com’s case, the experiences have been purely food oriented. They would have a bunch of restaurants from around the country listed and you could get a gift certificate for a specific restaurant at a reduced price (i.e. buy a $25 gift certificate for $10, a $100 gift certificate for $40, etc.). The one caveat has always been the minimum spending requirement, and even that hasn’t been that bad – it’s usually twice the value of the gift certificate. So, for example, you’d have to spend a minimum of $50 at the restaurant to be able to use that $25 gift certificate that cost you $10.
But back to what my friend taught me…
Joe and I hadn’t looked at Restaurants.com for several years. Nothing against them, it’s just that we rarely went to the restaurants on their list (we have our favorite places to eat in Central FL, plus a handful of others, and to be honest, we don’t eat out that often when we’re home). So when my friend mentioned that you could by Broadway tickets on Restaurants.com, I was intrigued!
It turns out that Restaurants.com now has a whole other section called Specials by Restaurant.com and they have all kinds of cool stuff there at discounted prices. Sports events. Movie tickets. Theme park tickets. Gift certificates for hotels. Travel equipment. And yep, tickets for Broadway shows.
As of this writing, they have tickets for 7 shows:
- Beautiful (regularly $187.50, but $99 on this site)
- Beetlejuice (regularly $160.75 but $96.99 on this site)
- Chicago The Musical (regularly $240.43, but $124.99 on this site)
- Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune (regularly $132.75 but $73.99 on this site)
- The Lion King (regularly $215.45 but $153.99 on this site)
- Moulin Rouge! (regularly $204.70 but $144.99 on this site)
- The Play That Goes Wrong (regularly $155.50 but $92.99 on this site)
Along with the purchase of your tickets, you also get a $50 gift card for Restaurants.com
Here are the general details for the shows and the gift cards:
BROADWAY SHOW:
- Limited number of tickets are available for each show and may/will (depending on the show) sell out.
- There is a $4.50 processing fee per package.
- Tickets will be set up for will call at the theatre box office. Please arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the performance to pick up ticket(s) with a valid photo ID.
- Seats will be assigned at the discretion of the venue within the selected section of the venue.
- Seats are guaranteed to be together when in the same purchase. Seats assigned in rows in front or behind the same seats are considered together, but almost all seats are side by side including all pairs.
- Offer is non-refundable/non-exchangeable and cannot be combined with any other offer or applied to previously purchased tickets.
- No cash value or cash back. This is a date-specific event. Not valid after show date. All sales final.
- $50 Restaurant.com Card will be emailed to you within 24-48 hours from the date of purchase to the email address associated with your Specials by Restaurant.com Account.
- Restaurant.com Cards Never Expire.
- Must be redeemed solely for services at www.restaurant.com.
- Have no cash value and are not redeemable for cash at any time.
- Resale is prohibited unless authorized by Restaurant.com.
- Minimum purchase is required at the restaurant and/or the provider’s website.
- All sales final. No refunds.
The prices are roughly what you’d find at TKTS and some of the shows are scheduled to close. However with that $50 Restaurant.com gift card, it turns an OK deal to a decent one.

The broadway deals are not really deals. Nearly all of the discounts I see above are not as good as what you can get through the more traditional broadway discount codes easily findable on a number of websites.
Fair enough. Are there any URLs of these websites that you can share? I’m always looking and I certainly haven’t found them. Perhaps some of my other readers haven’t either.
