Happy Wednesday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- We found out that Lyft is now, “the official rideshare partner of Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.” That’s no surprise since Lyft runs WDW’s “Minnie Van” service (BTW, Minnie Vans are a nice novelty, but they’re RARELY a good decision, cost wise. Here’s a cost comparison of Uber, Lyft and Minnie Vans). But I guarantee that Lyft will get some more business now, just like Eastern and, later on, Delta did, when they were each “the official airline of Walt Disney World.”
- We’ve discovered a lot of really funny airline employees over time, but none are like this guy.
- Passenger rights in the U.S. are not stupendous by any stretch of the imagination (click here to see them), but at least we have them. Matthew at Live And Let’s Fly reports on the growing pains the Canadian Passengers’ Bill of Rights is currently going through.
- I used to feel the same way as Jonny at Coworkaholic and would never consider flying on Frontier or Spirit. That is, until I actually flew Frontier. Sure, it’s not the greatest, and even booking the flight was different from what I expected, but it’s better than basic economy. I’ve actually flown on Frontier 3 times now and lived to tell the tale. But will I fly on Spirit? Well…they are doing a whole lot better in some ways. And their flight attendants definitely have a sense of humor, so we’ll see.
- Meanwhile, we have more and more reasons why we like Southwest. Besides not charging you for checked bags, it seems like they want everyone to have a companion pass. So when Gary from View From The Wing wrote that Southwest is willing to status match you over and over again, I wasn’t surprised at all.
- Anywhere there are tourists, there are going to be scams. Cases in point:
— 6 scams to be aware of when visiting New York City
— How people are scammed on carnival and midway games
— When we got caught by one of the most common scams out there when we were in England (and we know better!)
So what’s the most recent way to rip off tourists? This. Horrific, huh? - I really want to visit Singapore Changi airport one of these days. OK sure, there was this guy who messed some stuff up in its early months, but really, this has gone to be one of the most fun things you could ever do at an airport. And did you see the Harry Potter layout they did for Christmas? Just…awesome. So I especially loved reading Gilbert’s post about his visit to Changi on God Save The Points. It just makes me want to go even more!
