Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- There seems to be a neverending barrage of stories about hacked accounts. One of the most common is getting into your Hilton Honors account and transferring points to Amazon. Tim from Take Me To The Points shows you the steps you can take to make it more difficult to drain your account by this method. Just remember, never use your Hilton points to buy things on Amazon as it’s a horrible value.
- Here’s a story that shows there are still good people in the world. When Dan from Dan’s Deals heard that a United flight from Tel Aviv to Newark was being diverted to Cleveland due to weather, he sprung into action. With no Kosher food available at the airport, read Dan’s story about how he (with the help of TSA agent) managed to get Kosher food past security and to the passengers.
- Back in 2017, there was an amazing offer to get 150x British Airways Avios when using Match.com. Grant from Travel with Grant was one of those who went all in and paid $550 for a 12-month membership with all the extras, hoping to net over 82,000 Avios. Spoiler Alert: he never got the Avios but shares the story of how he got something else from that offer that’s even better.
- I selected the $125 lump-sum from Equifax instead of the 10 years of credit monitoring. Ben from One Mile at a Time writes about why the Federal Trade Commission felt it was necessary to post an article letting everyone know that they’re not going to get $125, or anything even close to that because of the number of claimants. Fortunately, they are letting people change their selection now that we have more accurate info to make an informed decision.
- Many people noticed the wording on Delta’s drink napkins means something totally different if you transpose words.
Point Me to the Plane assures us that “No, Delta Isn’t Promoting Suicide” and gives the reasoning behind the message and ad campaign. Personally, I can’t introduce the subject of suicide without saying if you need help or just want to talk to someone, please contact the Suicide Prevention Hotline online or call them at 1-800-273-8255 - American Express has been busy acquiring travel brands. Earlier this year they snapped up LoungeBuddy and quickly integrated it into their platform of travel tools only for AMEX cardholders. Now they’ve acquired OpenTable competitor Resy.com and want you to use the service, with your American Express card. On GSTP, they go over the details of a new promotion for up to 1,500 bonus Membership Rewards points just for making reservations through Resy.
- Matthew from Live and Let’s Fly gives his opinions on one of the biggest issues we’re dealing with right now. Airplane coffee.
- Lastly, from the don’t believe everything you see on social media category, Mark from Miles to Memories shows how “influencers” are ruining travel by giving people false expectations when posting doctored images. I can’t believe the trick in this article that people are using to get pictures that will get more likes, but this one is really brilliant in its simplicity.
