All About North Korea’s One & Only, Teeny Tiny, Little Airline

by SharonKurheg

North Korea has a total of one airline. It’s called Air Koryo and it has a fleet of 17 passenger planes (one is only for VIPs) and one cargo plane. And its history is, I have to admit, pretty fascinating:

So what’s it really like?

Air Koryo gets average customer reviews of 6/10 on Skytrax and 3.5/5 on tripadvisor. If you want to make comparisons, Ryanair gets a 5/10 and Spirit gets a 3/10 on Skytrax and both of them get average ratings of 3.0/5 on tripadvisor. So take that as you’d like đŸ˜‰

Meanwhile, Sam Chui, one of our fellow authors on Boarding Area, has flown to/from North Korea several times; here are the videos of some of his experiences:

Oh, and if you want to see video of what is probably the fanciest hotel in North Korea, the Hotel Koryo (the hotel that famously had a fire on the upper floors of the high rise double towered building in 2015 and there’s next to no evidence of it), to see what it’s like (and to learn more about the fire), just click here.
