I Can’t Believe I Actually Did This When I Got To My Hotel Room

I’ve always said I wasn’t the type of person to get affected by what I read. I’m not one to fall for whatever news is trending on Facebook. I evaluate everything before taking any action. That’s why my approach to earning points and miles falls more on the conservative side. I don’t jump on the bandwagon right away and sometimes it leaves without me, and that’s OK.

That’s why I was surprised when I found myself doing something when I checked into my most recent hotel that I never did before. More amazing to me was that I didn’t even think about doing it. I just did it like it was something normal. Like I did this all the time.

What did I do?

I pulled up the bedsheets to check for bedbugs.

I never thought of this before but after reading stories on the internet about those who have suffered through being bitten up and having welts all over their body and needing to get their luggage fumigated, is it so much to pull up a sheet? I had subconsciously become convinced this was a big enough problem for me to worry about.

When checking for the first time, I actually felt nervous. I’ve never done this before. What would I have done if I found something?

All clear. Actually, it was cleaner than I imagined it would look.

Now I guess I could have looked at our article on how to check if your hotel has been reported to have bedbugs but that would probably have just made me more nervous.

However, nothing has made me more nervous about bedbugs during a stay than looking out of the window of my motel at the motel next door and seeing plywood covering over a door saying “Bedbugs inside!” I felt itchy the whole trip, even if this wasn’t even our hotel.
