I’m a big fan of FlightAware. It’s one of the seven travel apps you need to have when traveling. It’s also the app I use to spy on family and friends when they’re traveling.
So the last thing I’m expecting to see when I pull up FlightAware is an X-Wing on the map.
Well, it turns out that United is going all out with the Star Wars branding to coincide with the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie to be released on December 20th.
They’ve already released a Star Wars-themed safety video (which has more footage from the film than I wanted to see). I’m firmly #teamNoSpoilers.
If that’s not enough, they’ve gotten FlightAware to change the icon of their Star Wars livery plane (N36272) to show up as an X-Wing Fighter.
Now, this plane is no stranger to our local airport of MCO. In fact, the @MCO Twitter feed likes to show off when the plane arrives in town.
Not too long ago, from a galaxy not far away…the @united – Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker special livery 737 – landed in our spaceport. With a light and a dark side of the force this starfighter showed us all of its unlimited power. #StarWars pic.twitter.com/GjnF36FS4d

This is as close we’ll get to a United plane unless we want to bid some of our MileagePlus miles to get a set of amenity kits and a model airplane. The bids to attend the premiere are already up to 200,000 miles and there are 19 days to go.
And no matter how cool I think United Star Wars livery looks, it’s nowhere near as badass as the LATAM Stormtrooper livery.

Flew home from London on Saturday and they had special amenity kits for Biz and PE – so cool!
