Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Nick wrote a post on Frequent Miler warning anyone staying at a Marriott Bonvoy property using points, free night certificates or a combination of the two to keep a close eye on your reservations. Apparently, Marriott’s IT glitches are at it again and this time they’re repricing stays for more points without alerting anyone, sometimes during the middle of a stay. One more reason I need to break myself away from staying with Marriott. You bet I’m going to be constantly checking my reservations for our upcoming stays to make sure I’m not gonna get #Bonvoyed.
- I had mixed emotions while reading a post on Live and Let’s Fly about overhead bins, Matthew’s position is that you should be able to put your bag in any available bin, but preferably over or in front of your seat. He also says that you can’t move bags already in the bin. I disagree because if a person decides to put in their bag the wrong way, then puts in a purse and jacket and pillow, I should be able to find room for my bag in that bin. However, you should never remove a bag that’s in a bin to put your bag in its place. Don’t be that passenger.
- John from Loyalty Lobby wrote about an Uber scam he endured while in Mexico City. What followed was an even more frustrating back and forth with Uber support. While I suffered a similar scam by a Lyft driver in New York, that problem was resolved quickly.
- Our friends at Points, Miles & Martinis wrote about their recent stay at the Moxy NYC Times Square. I was a little disappointed that they didn’t mention the hotel’s adults only miniature golf course on its rooftop.
- When you have multiple point-earning accounts from airlines, hotels, rental cars, and credit cards, keeping track of all your balances can be a major pain. That’s why we whole-heartedly recommend using a website like AwardWallet to help you keep everything organized. I was a bit concerned when I saw an article on View From The Wing about how Chase is going to ban third-party apps from scraping their site to get your account information. It looks like Chase is going to be reasonable and still let apps get your info but in a more secure manner.
- Everyone loves a suite upgrade, right? Maybe not if you’re changed from a room with two beds to one with a single king-size bed and you’re traveling with three people. That’s what happened to this guest at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando. To make matters worse, they were told there were no more rooms with two beds available, even though that’s the room type they booked. We like the Waldorf Astoria as it’s one of the two true luxury brand hotels on (or within) Disney property.
- We’ve all been at hotels that offer free breakfasts. By the time the morning rush is over, the trash bins are overflowing. If there were two different containers for trash and recycling, if one of the bins are full, people will just use the other one. Brian from The Gate writes about how just one person not following the disposal rules ruins the whole container for recycling.
