Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far! Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- We’ve been following stories about Chick-fil-A franchises trying to open new locations in airports, and the pushback from said airports and legislators for over a year. One airport in a legal battle over the issue is San Antonio and Gary from View From the Wing reported that they’ve spent over $300,000 in legal fees so far defending their position to keep the chain from their city. It’s time to realize that this isn’t the way any of this is supposed to work. If you want to keep Chick-fil-A out, just offer a better chicken sandwich.
- Lucky reported on One Mile at a Time about how ANA (All Nippon Airways) is moving most of their international flights to/from the U.S. to Tokyo Haneda Airport from Narita Airport. Now we realized this already because when we booked flights home from Japan this fall, both our domestic flight in Japan and the connecting flight to the U.S. were scheduled from Haneda.
- I was following in real-time on Twitter the issues that Shawn from Miles to Memories was having while staying at the Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas. He’s put the story together in this post and I dare anyone to book a stay at this hotel after reading what he had to go through. Now, we’ve listed our most memorable hotels but we’ve never had a stay be memorable because of so many things going wrong as he experienced.
- Nick from Frequent Miler wrote about a Chase Offer for 10% back on purchases at Starbucks. Upon closer inspection, I saw that the offer was capped at $3 back. These insanely low limits are why I’m not paying attention to Chase Offers.
- I follow Andy’s Travel Blog because one day I want to be able to take pictures as pretty as he does. I know nothing about photography but I appreciate a really good photo and his shot of the Northern Lights from the window of an airplane is simply stunning. Now I’m planning to make a trip to Lapland just to see something I hope is close to as amazing as what he captured in this shot.
- Steve wrote on Travel Codex about his stay at the Casa Marina Hotel in Key West. We stayed at the same hotel in 2018 and I was not surprised to see that he had the same feelings about the hotel that I did. Mainly, I’m still disappointed that Hilton Diamonds still have to pay $15 a person to eat breakfast unless they want a bagel from the coffee shop.
- Richard wrote in his Critical Points posts on TPG about his hopes for 2020. I’m in agreement with many of his points including the desire that hotels do away with resort fees (and here’s an easy way to find out how much of a fee a hotel charges).
- This post from The Points of Life shows how it’s possible to get a good Italian dinner near Times Square that’s not from Olive Garden. We’ve also shared some tips about how to go to New York City and not eat like a tourist.
