How Much Compensation Would You Ask For, If This Happened In Your Hotel Room?

a bathroom with a glass shower door

The Hilton Fort Wayne at the Grand Wayne Convention Center (holy crap, what a mouthful!) has a lot of things going for it:

It gets 8.7/10 on Booking.com, 4.3/5.0 on Expedia and  4.5/5.0 stars on Tripadvisor, which ranks it as the #6 hotel in Fort Wayne.

So I guess it’s doing pretty well.

But back in 2018, they had a little problem…

A boyfriend and girlfriend were staying at the Hilton Fort Wayne at the Grand Wayne Convention Center (can I just call it the HFWatGWCC?), when they discovered this:

Obviously, it looked like they thought it was more funny than anything else, so that’s good.

From what I can see from TripAdvisor, the toilets were apparently new to the hotel and caused some issues in several rooms:

To their credit, it appears that the HFWatGWCC fixed the bathroom door clearance issue sometime after the woman and her boyfriend stayed at the hotel.

Of course, we don’t know the rest of the story of what happened that night – were there are other rooms available? Did they not know to ask? Did they not care? I dunno.

I DO know that if this had happened to Joe and me, we probably wouldn’t have said anything. We’re married, and a bathroom door that doesn’t close all the way isn’t a big deal to us. If we were still in the early years of when we were dating, or especially if it was during the time when we were “just friends” (yeah, we’re one of those sickeningly sweet couples who were close friends before we ever dated), we probably would have asked if we could have another room. But if it had happened to us in 2018? We probably would have told the front desk as we checked out so they could be aware of the problem, but we definitely wouldn’t have asked for any sort of compensation. After all, we were the couple who lived through this (also in 2018, now that I think about it).

But that’s us and as the blog says, Your Mileage May Vary. If this had happened to you, under your “real life” circumstances, would you have asked for compensation? What would you have asked for?
