During this challenging time, we’ve read story after story about layoffs, furloughs, firings and closures. I mean, I get it – when it comes to travel, people aren’t going places, so hotels, airlines and other hospitality- and travel-oriented businesses are becoming smaller, if not closing entirely, for now, and simply don’t need as many workers.
Many companies are asking their employees to voluntarily take time off without pay. Others have furloughed their workers. Or laid them off. Hyatt, as well as Wyndham Hotels & Resorts have had to let many able and talented people go, as well. But along with that, they’re going above and beyond to try to help their people whose positions were furloughed or eliminated.
Wyndham
Wyndham is giving its employees the tools to find work, with a whole page of workforce resources for full time, part-time or temporary positions with companies that need more workers.
They’ve partnered with and have a list of over 30 nationwide companies that are currently hiring, including supermarkets (Albertson’s, H-E-B, Trader Joe’s), restaurants (Domino’s, Pizza Hut), call centers, pharmacies (Walgreens, CVS), big box stores (Costco), etc. They have resources for their people in NJ, TX and FL that offer even more opportunity.
None of the jobs are glamorous – most are entry-level, such as cashiers, stockers, drivers, etc. But if you’re out of work and want to make more than what Unemployment will give you (hello, $275/week in Florida, max), it’s a great resource.
Hyatt
Hyatt has announced launching the Hyatt Care Fund, which is intended to financially assist their global colleagues.
From their website:
The ultimate goal of the Hyatt Care Fund is to provide financial relief to as many impacted colleagues as possible. Initially, grants will be prioritized to colleagues who are currently working zero hours and not eligible for government assistance. Grants will provide compensation for needs ranging from rent payments to groceries or childcare assistance to utilities and other monthly payments.
The Hyatt Care Fund is launching with initial contributions by the Hyatt Hotels Foundation, salary reductions of Hyatt’s Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors, and donations from Pritzker family foundations.
Kudos to both Hyatt and Wyndham for giving their respective people these opportunities!
