There was a lot of excitement last year when JetBlue announced it would begin flying to London from New York JFK and Boston Logan in 2021. The airline’s announcement made international headlines in April 2019, even though they didn’t reveal an exact date or which airport(s) they would be servicing.
The excitement grew again a few months later when JetBlue announced the capability to fly deeper into Europe by 2023. But again, with no specifics.
Well, there’s finally an update.
Unfortunately, it’s not the update anyone wanted to hear.
During the airline’s Q1 earnings call last week, JetBlue’s CEO Robin Hayes said the coronavirus crisis has caused the launch to be delayed.
“I think that our decision to which we previously announced to fly to Europe, to start flights to London, I think that certainly, we wouldn’t be selling those today,” Hayes said. “We’re probably going a little bit later than we intended”
Referring to it as a “timing impact,” Hayes didn’t specify how long the delay will be.
I guess since they never specified when in 2021 the new service would begin, a delay (sorry, “timing impact”) doesn’t mean much, other than acknowledging that it’s happening.
So there you go.
