We’re living in an unprecedented time. Can we just agree to retire that word when this is over?
There are many problems that companies in the travel industry have to deal with. Not knowing where the industry or the economy is headed makes it challenging to develop plans on how to get there. Like us, most of them are just going from day to day, doing the best they can.
Something lower on their list of priorities is loyalty promotions. It’s a tricky proposition. You want to build goodwill with your loyal guests and reward those who still need to be traveling right now. But now is not the time to launch a big promotion. Not many people would take advantage of it, and you’d risk looking out of touch if you do it the wrong way. This is no time to make an unforced error.
Hilton Hotels came up with a compromise. They just extended their promo that ended on May 3rd until September 7th.
Registered Hilton Honors members will earn 2,000 Bonus Points per stay during the Promotion Period, as well as an additional 10,000 Bonus Points for every 10th night completed. There is no limit to the total amount of Bonus Points that may be earned during the Promotion Period with this offer. The 10,000 Bonus Points award can be earned an unlimited number of times.
Since this is still the same promo as in January, there’s no need to sign up again if you’ve already enrolled. If you never registered and you’re going to stay at a Hilton between now and September 7th, you can sign up right until you’re checking out at the promo home page.
Hilton still gets to reward people for staying at their properties while not having to do a big launch. They get the same benefit and no risk of being called insensitive or judged for putting out a mediocre promotion. Low risk and moderate reward. That’s a sweet spot many companies are looking for.
