Happy Wednesday to all of our travel friends, both near and far. Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- In this age of coronacrapola, canceling previously made travel plans has become the norm. Many of us are looking to travel again but trying to be smart about where and when we’ll go. I really felt this post from Miles for Family about booking a seemingly safe staycation at the Gaylord Texan hotel, only to see the plans evaporate once she saw cases of coronavirus explode all over Texas.
- American Airlines made news this week when they announced that they’re done with pretending that they care about distancing on-board their planes and will begin booking flights to 100% capacity, which is the policy United has followed for the entire pandemic. This is the direct opposite of Delta’s stance of only booking flights to 60% capacity in economy and blocking middle seats, which they’ve extended to flights through September 30th. Southwest and JetBlue are also limiting flight capacity so I guess we’ll have to see if passengers are willing to fly with American and United even it means you’ll be seated like it’s 2019.
- Maybe signing up for new credit cards isn’t the main thing you’re thinking about but eventually, you’ll hit all of your minimum spending requirements and the desire to earn a bunch of miles will return. I’m a believer that any card you get should be part of your plan to reach a travel goal, but this post from Miles to Memories is a reminder that there are some cards you want to get first and other than can wait, especially if you’re under Chase’s 5/24 limit.
- I’m more than mildly agitated that I’m not willing to travel right now. Why is that? I’m not able to visit many places in the world because they won’t let Americans in. Even if I wanted to travel around the USA, some states would force me to quarantine for 14 days when I arrive because I live in a state where the virus is running rampant. I put the blame for this on my fellow Floridians who feel wearing a mask is a restriction of their freedom. While I spend the day sneering from under my mask, Ziggy from Traveling for Miles puts the frustration I’m feeling into words with “A message for people who refuse to wear a face covering.”
