Hong Kong Disneyland was the second Disney park to reopen, on June 18, after all Disney parks closed in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. It’s now the first one to close again.
The announcement was made by Disney earlier today: “As required by the government and health authorities in line with prevention efforts taking place across Hong Kong, Hong Kong Disneyland park will temporarily close from July 15.”
Hong Kong is in what is being considered their “third wave” of cases of COVID-19. Public health experts describe this latest wave as the worst Hong Kong has had so far, and has caused school, gyms and movie theaters, among others, to close.
“This is the start of a sustained massive local outbreak that we have never seen,” said Professor Gabriel Leung, Dean of the University of Hong Kong’s (HKU) medical school.
HKU microbiologist Professor Yuen Kwok-yung said the latest wave had occurred partly because the public had lost interest in fighting the virus.
Although Hong Kong Disneyland is going to close due to the virus, other Disney parks that had reopened, are still open. Here in the U.S., Disneyland, in California, had not yet reopened and, in fact, recently pushed back the dates they would accept reservations for its resort hotels, from July until August.
Walt Disney World, in Florida, reopened on July 11. On the same day, Florida had a record-breaking 15,299 new cases. Of those, 482 were in Orange County, which is the county where most of WDW property is on (the rest lies in Osceola County, which had 203 new cases on July 11).
Between July 5 and 11, there were 173 newly confirmed Covid-19 cases in Hong Kong.

I feed bad for the Hong Kong, new security law and now this… I love their spirit for sure. Disney land in Hong is smarter than the one in United States
