Happy Sunday to all of our travel friends, both near and far. Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, as well, so we’re passing them along.
- Due to COVID-19, almost all of our 2020 travel plans have evaporated into thin air. This post from Miles to Memories asks if you’re planning on recreating your canceled trips or making plans for new ones. For us, since we had no plans for 2021, most of the plans just have been put off for another year. We’ve replaced our 2020 trips with occasional visits to local themeparks or trips to the beach.
- One thing that keeps people from getting every credit card they’d want is Chase’s 5/24 rule. You’d imagine that getting under that restriction might be a wonderful feeling but Miles for Family writes about how even being free of that restriction doesn’t mean you’re free to get whatever card you want. We’re also below 5/24 and just applied for what might be one of the least exciting cards out there.
- Professional sports leagues are restarting under restrictive guidelines. Major League Soccer (both men and women’s leagues) have been playing for a while in Florida and Utah. National Basketball League players have been isolating in their bubble at Walt Disney World waiting for their playoff season to resume. The most ambitious professional sport is Major League Baseball which is trying to run a 60 game season with games being played at home stadiums across the US (without fans, of course.) Well, it turns out that one team will not be able to play at their home stadium since the Canadian government is forbidding the Toronto Blue Jays from traveling back and forth the United States due to the risk of spreading coronavirus and that they do not consider baseball to be essential. On another note, National Hockey League teams have received an exemption to the Canadian mandatory quarantine because the games are restricted to two hubs — Edmonton and Toronto. Because everyone knows hockey is essential in Canada.
- This post on Frequent Miler looked at if it was worth trying to earn an additional seven nights at Marriott hotels to earn Platinum status. Since I think that’s the sweet spot for Marriott’s program, it might be worth it if you’d be able to do it without much additional effort.
- We’ve often said how it’s a good idea to get Global Entry (or when it’s not.) But what if you go through all the hassle and get approved. Did you wonder what could get your status to be taken away from you? Turns out takes much less than you’d imagine for you to get your status revoked.
