Our Visit To Tantrum Brewing Company – Cleveland, GA

by joeheg

During our trip to Georgia, we were looking for things to do during the daytime that didn’t include being around large crowds of people. While driving around, I think not long after our visit to the shortest covered bridge in Georgia, we saw a brewery along the side of the highway. We made it a point to stop by later that afternoon.

Tantrum Brewing company is located in Cleveland, Georgia. Opened in 2019, the craft beer producer is part of the growing agritourism trend. What is agrotourism?

Agritourism or agrotourism involves any agriculturally based operation or activity that brings visitors to a farm or ranch

I wondered what did that have to do with beer? As it turns out, once getting to the brewery, you can see the tall hops plants growing on the property. While not yet mature, the brewery hopes to use these hops to make beer on-site eventually. That’s sure one way to stay local.

While all of that information is interesting, let’s get to talking about the beer.

Tantrum serves a rotating list of beers at the taproom. Some of their standard offerings are:

  • Folklore American IPA
  • Look Closer Imperial IPA
  • Poems @ Midnight Sour
  • Gypsy Queen Lager
  • Infinite Obscurity New England IPA

They also brew seasonal beers like Hefeweizen, Oktoberfest and a Stout. When we visited, they were pouring several flavored varieties of their beers.

Our group tried a variety from the menu (from left to right)

  • Blood Orange Folklore IPA
  • Lime Hard Seltzer
  • Boom Gose The Dynamite Cranberry Farmhouse Ale
  • Boom Gose The Dynamite Strawberry Farmhouse Ale

We sat inside, as the taproom is a large area and the tables were spaced out sufficiently. If we wanted, there were also picnic tables located outside. The beers were good and some of the flavors were better than others.

Sharon and I like beer well enough, but we’re not huge beer people so we’re probably not the best reviewers of a brewery. Saying that, the Tantrum Brewing Company taproom was a nice place to sit down for an hour or so and have a beer. When the hops plants start to mature, this will be a scenic spot in the mountains to hang out for an afternoon. Before the pandemic, they had live music and food trucks on-site, which would make it an even better place to spend part of the day.

The taproom is located at 1939 Helen Hwy,  Cleveland, GA and is currently open on Thursday thru Sunday. You can find the hours on their website. There’s not much info there, so if you’re thinking about a visit, Yelp and Tripadvisor are your best bets for current information.
