The IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card from Chase is the best co-brand card you can get for IHG hotels. The card is great to keep for the long term because of the benefits it provides. Before the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, Chase offered a best-ever sign-up bonus of 140,000 IHG Rewards Club points after you made purchases totaling $3,000 or more during the first 3 months from account opening. It was such a good offer that we signed up for the card.

In July 2020, the increased sign up bonus went down to 125,000 points, which still is a solid offer. It didn’t take long for Chase to boost the bonus back up to 140,000 points. To make things even better, they waived the $95 annual fee for the first year.
But wait, there’s more! After the increased bonus was launched, eagle-eyed points and miles collectors found an even better offer.
If you go to the IHG website to book a room, you’ll see an offer for 140,000 bonus points, a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, AND a $50 statement credit.
This offer can be also be found here.
As a reminder, here are the requirements for earning the signup bonus for the IHG Premier card.
This product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this credit card within the last 24 months.
The IHG cards from Chase are also subject to the 5/24 rule.
Where can you use the points you get from this signup bonus?
I’m still looking at places to stay in Japan if we’re able to visit in 2021. There are several Intercontinental hotels in Tokyo that go for 50,000 points a night. The signup bonus will more than cover the cost of a room for two nights. Because I also have the IHG Select card, I’ll get 10% points back from the redemption.
Next year, we hope to resume our yearly trips to Schlitterbahn. Those are always four-night weekend trips at our usual Candlewood Suites. With the IHG Premier, when using points for the stay, I’d get the fourth night free. And guess what, I’d still get the 10% rebate from the IHG Select card on the three nights I paid for.
Final Thoughts
If you’re on the fence about getting the IHG Premier card, this might be the best offer you’ll see. Chase and IHG will pay you $50 and 140,000 bonus points for the first year and every year; you’ll get a free night worth up to 40,000 points for your $95 annual fee.
