Walt Disney World is open. The four theme parks welcome visitors every day, admittedly looking a bit differently than it did before coronavirus. At the same time, it was thought that once the lockdowns were lifted and Florida reopened the state that all of the visitors would return due to pent up demand.
Guess what? That hasn’t happened. Disney has realized this and is starting to tell employees that they no longer have jobs, making life in Orlando not all that magical right now. With domestic tourism down dramatically and almost no visitors from overseas, Disney at first looked to their most loyal fans to keep the parks afloat.
Florida residents have done their part, putting guests in the park and allowing them to lose less money with them open than if the parks were closed. But that’s not a long-term strategy and Disney management is looking for additional people to visit the parks and hopefully spend a few nights at the currently open hotels.
If you haven’t realized, most of the Disney hotels currently open are also Disney Vacation Club resorts. That’s because DVC members are still paying dues and have vacation points that are set to expire. Disney needs to keep those hotels open. Other resorts, many of which are the value properties, are still closed. If you’re looking to plan a trip to WDW, renting a room at the Grand Floridian or Riviera Resort isn’t cheap.
As a Disney Vacation Club owner, I received this email today offering discounted rooms at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort.
Save up to 40% on rooms (cash rentals only) at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa for stays most nights now through November 5, 2020 and December 13 through 25, 2020. This offer is valid when you book through December 25, 2020.
Granted that Saratoga Springs isn’t the most desirable resort and the dates are limited but Disney is still deeply discounting rooms on property. While this might seem to be a targeted offer, Disney also threw in this “but there’s more” exception.
Be sure to ask about additional dates and resorts.
This is a limited offer, but maybe it depends on how badly they need to fill hotel rooms on those dates. Rooms need to be booked by a DVC member on your behalf so this isn’t a public offer unless you know a DVC member.
Disney will continue to milk their most loyal customers for everything they can until people start returning to the “Happiest Place on Earth.”

Or what if they won’t really return? What if people realized they can live without the overpriced, crowded, consumerist garbage “entertainment” that Disney sells? There are better things for a family to do, like road trips and camping.
They won’t survive on Floridans alone, they’re all conditioned to getting deep discounts and won’t pay anywhere near full price.
