As the COVID-19 pandemic continues and travel is limited, airlines have thought of various ways to boost their bottom line. Several airlines promoted “flights to nowhere,” while another hosted a meal on a plane.
Air New Zealand is involved with a different type of themed flight. They’re hosting a flight that will include Kiwi rock band SIX60 onboard. An extremely popular group in New Zealand, they were the most streamed Kiwi band on Spotify in 2018. They’re also one of the few local acts that have sold out Auckland’s 49,000 capacity Western Springs Stadium.
The flight will go from Auckland to Dunedin, the city where the band’s story began. While in the air, the flight will show the premiere of a documentary about the homegrown group, called SIX60: Till the Lights Go Out. Here’s a premiere of the film.
The package for the flight includes a one-way flight to Dunedin. The promoters hope this encourages some of the passengers to stay in the city for a night or two or even venture out further. That could be a welcome boost to tourism in the city.
Flight NZ660, on an A321neo, sold out in about 7 hours.
The event happens on Saturday, November 14.
