Happy Thursday to all our travel friends, both near and far. Here are some articles we’ve read from other bloggers (and other sources) that we think you may like, so we’re passing them along.
- What’s a Southwest companion pass worth? A simple calculation says that it makes your Southwest points worth twice as much. Nick from Frequent Miler calls BS on that claim and tries to break through the headlines to show what the pass is actually worth (and why it’s still an amazing deal). Here’s a breakdown of the details about the pass and FWIW, it’s not such a great deal if you can’t often fly on Southwest.
- When corporate public relations departments started to develop a marketing plan for COVID-19, the universal theme was cleanliness. They installed obvious means to keep people safe, such as plexiglass barriers and masks were mandated (even if not all employees chose to comply with those measures.) While it appears that some (most) of the public is doubtful if these measures are sufficient, American Airlines feels it will help their image to show how they’re delivering on their “clean commitment.” I don’t think any company can fulfill its cleanliness promises since they all depend on every employee’s compliance.
- How careful are you looking at your emails? Are you a Hilton Honors member with status who hasn’t stayed at the hotel much during the last year? What if they emailed a link asking you to sign up for bonus points? Would you click on it? Scammers are counting that you will. Not surprising that the pandemic has led to programs giving away points to the most loyal customers. Fraud is so common that I almost fell prey to this phishing scheme.
- Despite the pandemic, Orlando’s themeparks are open are so are the hotels in the area. One of the closest hotels to Universal Studios Orlando is the DoubleTree. It’s honestly across the street from Univeral property and they’ve even built a sky bridge so you don’t have to cross traffic. Here’s a review of what it’s like to stay there amid the COVID-19 pandemic and here’s a list of the other hotels you can book with points that are nearby.
