Like many places that have been conservative instead of allowing places to open “too fast, too soon,” Governor Steve Sisolak has taken his time with allowing Nevada to reopen. However thanks to his “low and slow” approach, the number of new cases of COVID in the state has been manageable.
In response to that good news, on February 16, 2021, Gov. Sisolak allowed caps for casino floors to go from 25% to 35%. Many other forms of entertainment were also able to go to 25% and some, such as museums, art galleries, aquariums and zoos were allowed to increase capacity to 50%. Restaurants were also “looser,” both in terms of having to make reservations and how many people could sit at a table.
Sisolak’s administration said that if things went well, restrictions could be eased even more on March 15th. Well, there’s more good news because here we are, and yes they can!
Effective today, establishments that had been capped at 35% can now increase to 50% capacity. These, of course, include casinos, but also include:
- Food and beverage establishments;
- Gyms, fitness studios, yoga studios, dance studios, and similar establishments;
- Arcades, racetracks, bowling alleys, mini-golf, pool halls/billiards rooms, amusement and theme parks, and similar activities.
Since February 15, large gatherings were only allowed to take place at up to 20% capacity for venues with over 2,500 seats. Conventions, conferences, and trade shows were also capped at 1,000 individuals. However effective today, those are also increased to 50%, if they complete and submit a Large Gathering COVID-19 Preparedness & Safety Plan Certification Form (“Large Gathering Certification”) to the Department of Business and Industry (B&I).
Requirements for appropriate facial coverings continue when out in public.
