The Orlando Business District Is Getting A 5-Star Hotel

Occasionally, I’ll miss a local news story about what’s coming to the area. While browsing headlines from our local paper, the Orlando Sentinel,  I saw an article about how the Orlando Museum of Art will be opening a new location in downtown Orlando.  The museum would be on the ground floor of an upcoming 33-story tower due to be completed in 2024.

What I didn’t know was what else is planned for the tower. Per the Sentinel article:

The new 33-story building, by SDG, LLC, and Summa Development Group, LLC, also will contain a luxury restaurant, condominiums, penthouses, a “sky club,” a convention center, a dog park and the first five-star hotel in Orlando’s central business district.

Orlando has a few five-star hotel properties, including some at Walt Disney Worldwith even more of them scheduled to open in the next 2 to 3 years.

However, there’s not much in the way of luxury hotels if you want or need to stay downtown. The closest thing to a luxury hotel is The Grand Bohemian Orlando, part of the Bonvoy Autograph Collection. There are other hotels such as Aloft, Marriott, Crowne Plaza, Doubletree and a brand new AC Hotel, but nothing special.

I did a little more digging and the developers announced last August that three hotels were vying for the space in the tower.

There’s no mention of which brands were in the running but the plans including a sky club and now with the biggest museum in the area involved, it seems that they’d be looking at high-end names.

Whoever gets to be in the building, it’s sure to be one of the fanciest and most expensive places to stay in Downtown Orlando.
