The 2021 World Naked Bike Ride Is Happening!

The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) has been running strong since 2004. It’s an international clothing-optional event where participants plan, meet and ride together on their bikes to highlight the vulnerability of cyclists everywhere and decry society’s dependence on pollution-based transportation. It’s a “bare as much as you dare” event and the events vary by date and even time or date (for example, Portland, Oregon historically has their event at nighttime).

We discovered the WNBR in 2018 and wrote all about the 2019 WNBR the following year.

And then COVID hit.

We truly expected the 2020 World Naked Bike Ride to be canceled but, amazingly, it never officially was. Instead, they made it a “ride naked on June 27th if you feel like it” sort of event (read more about it here), which I thought was kind of strange because really, what if you were the only one from your city that did?!?!?! Anyway, New Orleans, Madrid, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver each did a smaller-than-usual naked bike ride in 2020 but so far those are the only cities I’ve seen that did.

So what about 2021? A bunch of us have gotten our COVID vaccines. It’s an outdoor activity. The WNBR should be good to go, right?

Well, pretty much. Sorta.

The official WNBR website hasn’t been updated, but various cities appear to be making their own plans:

There are surely others. Just Google NAKED BIKE RIDE 2021 and the name of the city you’re interested in.

A few cities got a head start on us and already had their naked bike rides:

So there you go. If you plan on participating this year, happy naked bike riding! Don’t get too chafed! 😉
