We’ve reported on a few strange things that couples have done in planes. There’s been:
- the plane that had to make an emergency landing when a wife found out about her husband’s affair and became uncontrollable
- the couple that joined the Mile High Club while in their seats (note: the video in this post is now limited/protected but the link to the Daily Mail, also in the post, still has it)
There have also been people who have just been plain ol’ sneaky when it comes to aviation. Such as:
- the woman who snuck onto an MCO-ATL flight, despite having no ticket and no I.D. (the aftermath of her story was even crazier than the original story LOL!)
- another woman who made it onto an American Airlines plane at Chicago O’Hare, sans ticket, because she wanted to go to L.A. to see Grammy Award-winning rapper Jay-Z (you can’t make this stuff up!)
So SHOULD we be surprised that an Indonesian man who tested positive for COVID-19 has been accused of disguising himself as his wife so he could sneak on board his flight? Not really.
But it really happened.
According to CNN Indonesia, the man, identified only as “D.W.,” tried to use his wife’s negative Polymerase Chain Reaction ( PCR) swab test while wearing a niqab (a full-face veil) to travel on Citilink Airline from Jakarta to Sultan Baabullah Airport, in Ternate.
He was apprehended at the airport in Ternate after a flight attendant caught him taking off his veil and changing into his shirt in the plane’s lavatory.
The Head of Operations of the Ternate City COVID-19 Task Force, Muhammad Arif Gani said that once D.W. was arrested, airport officials immediately had him complete an antigen swab test, which turned out to be positive for COVID.
“After the positive results of Covid-19, the airport immediately contacted the Ternate City Covid-19 Handling Task Force team, to evacuate by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), then taken by ambulance to the house to self-isolate and will be supervised by the Task Force officers,” said Gani.
Police will legally process D.W. after his quarantine is over.
There’s been no word from Citilink about the situation.
