I remember when your mobile phone was just a phone and a rudimentary texting device. While it might have included a camera, the pictures it took were only good enough to text to another phone with a 300×300 resolution screen. Looking at those pictures on a computer screen showed them in all of their grainy and blurry reality.
Things have changed and now your phone probably has a better camera than that handheld Pentax you used to bring with you on vacation. In fact, Sharon and I don’t even bother bringing a camera (still or video) with us anymore when we travel. We’re not professional photographers and our phones take pictures that are of high enough quality that we can even put them into a calendar or hang one on the wall (which we have done with a picture we took in Cuba).
During our trip to Iceland, I accidentally discovered a trick that can allow anyone to take pictures that look like you brought loads of camera equipment with you on your trip.
If you’re like us, most of your waterfall pictures will look like this.

Getting a picture like this is easy and all it takes is changing one setting.
On your iPhone, make sure that you have “Live” activated. That’s the setting that captures a few seconds before and after you take a picture. If you’re taking a picture of people, it shows them fixing hair and stuff. However, it’s the key to getting cool nature photos. Once you’ve taken the picture, you can edit the photo to “bounce.” “loop” or “long exposure.”
Bounce is the annoying thing where the image goes back and forth, loop shows a few seconds over and over, and long exposure is what gives you a waterfall that looks like a veil instead of midair drops of water.
While I’m not to the point where I can take pictures like those you’ll see on Andy’s Travel Blog, I think I did pretty well for an amateur using only an iPhone.
