IHG recently announced its new bonus points promotion. When I saw the email, I skimmed over it because I mistakenly thought I had already registered. That’s understandable because this promotion is identical to IHG’s last bonus points offer, which ended on August 16th.
Since this is considered a new promotion, you have to register again. IHG makes it really easy to sign up with a single click from your targeted email.
The promotion doesn’t start until October 1st but you can pre-register now. If you haven’t received an email, you can sign up at this link.
The details of the promotion are:
- Earn 2x bonus points on your second stay
- Earn 3x bonus points on 3+ stays
- IHG Rewards co-brand cardmembers earn an additional 3,000 points on the second stay and 3,000 more points on the third stay.
Bonus points are paid on the base points for each qualifying stay during the promotion period. Since IHG Rewards members earn 10 points per dollar, they’ll get 20x points on the 2nd stay and 30x points on the 3rd and each subsequent stay. Except for Candlewood and Staybridge Suites which earn 5 points per dollar.
IHG co-brand cardholders receive an additional bonus of 3,000 points for the 2nd stay and an extra 3,000 points on the third stay.
This promotion runs until December 31, 2021. You can register until the end of the promotion period but stays made before you register will not earn bonus points. You can earn a maximum of 70,000 points during the promotions plus the 6,000 extra points if you have an IHG credit card.
I’m not a big fan of promotions that require you to have multiple stays to earn bigger bonuses. They’re penalizing people who have an expensive stay first, which will only earn the regular rate.
Hotel promotions are not influencing my hotel choices as we’re still catching up on using our free night certificates which stacked up over the travel slowdown. However, if you have plans for travel until the end of the year and will be staying with IHG, make sure to sign up before your stay.
