The #1 Tourist Attraction In Gdansk, Poland? A Dog On A Balcony

There are plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of oddball tourist attractions in the world:

Of course, some oddball places don’t last forever. We’ve had to say fond farewells to:

But for every oddball tourist attraction that goes away, another one pops its head up. Sometimes the one popping its head up is a golden retriever named Milka, who’s doing it from the balcony of her owners’ apartment in Gdansk, Poland.

Milka’s been greeting visitors on her street since at least 2018, and even has her own Facebook page.

Gdansk is a tourist city and most people go there to visit the famous old town or the nearby beach. But Milka’s pretty darn popular there, too. According to top-rated.online, “Stodki pies na balkonie” (translated from Polish: “Dog stands on the balcony”) has been awarded 3 trophies:

Milka lives on the corner of Politechniczna and Bohaterów Getta Warszawskiego streets in Gdansk. For a while, she was even listed on Google Maps. Unfortunately, her “pin” on the site was apparently removed not long ago and she’s no longer listed. Allegedly it’s because she wasn’t considered an “official attraction of the city.”

Harrumph. And Grrrrrr!

Poland is not currently open to U.S. travelers for tourism. You can visit if you’re an immediate family member of Polish citizens (husband, wife, minor children), and a few other ways, but going to Poland just to visit Gdansk and seeing Milka isn’t in the cards right now ;-). BUT, once it is, if you’d like to see a sweet pupper hanging out on her balcony, watching the world go by, you know where to look.;-)
