Is there something other people do or say that, for whatever reason, gets under your skin? And sometimes it bothers you so much that you just *have* to say something?
Maybe they use apostrophes when making a word plural. Or they always have to have the last word. Or perhaps they wanted to reply to whoever emailed something to a bunch of people, but replied to ALL instead.
I’m gonna let you in on a little secret: for a whole lot of fans of Disney parks, it’s when people mistake Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
I can see right now that some of you are vigorously nodding your head in agreement, and others of you are shrugging your shoulders and saying, “Who cares? What’s the big deal?”
Which is exactly the point. For some people, using the terms “Disneyland” and “Walt Disney World” are interchangeable. Or they call both parks “Disneyland.” Or they may truly have no idea of, or interest in the difference between the two.
Others appear to feel that mixing up any part of Disneyland and Walt Disney World almost borders on being a sinful act, and those guilty of the same must be corrected.
Anyway, as a quick primer, Disneyland is in California. It opened in 1955 and as you enter, you can see Sleeping Beauty Castle in the distance.
Walt Disney World is in Florida. Its castle is Cinderella Castle.
Walt Disney World opened on October 1, 1971. This past Friday was the park’s 50th anniversary, and besides the excitement and partying at the WDW resort (before you ask, although we live in Orlando, no, Joe and I didn’t go. We went for the 25th anniversary back in ’96. That was enough for us.), there were a whole lot of mentions about it in newspapers, online and on televised news broadcasts.
The employees at one particular TV station apparently weren’t aware of the differences between the two parks when they were getting their B-roll footage. They also probably weren’t aware that the Disneyland/Disney World thing was a trigger for newscaster Reggie Aqui, who just *had* to make things right ;-). Take a look:
Part of my job as a professional broadcaster is to help smooth things over when there are ‘bumps’.
BUT NOT WHEN A DISNEY INJUSTICE HAS OCCURRED. #WaltDisneyWorld 🤣 pic.twitter.com/Z4g8FDQySF— Reggie Aqui He/Him (@reggieaqui) October 1, 2021
Wow. I hope his co-workers were able to calm him down. 😉
