Actor Woody Harrelson has a history of issues with photographers. In 1995, the Academy Award-nominee was ordered to pay photographers over an incident on Martha’s Vineyard. In 2006, he allegedly choked a TMZ cameraman as he left a Hollywood nightclub. In 2009, a paparazzo accused him of assaulting him and damaging his video camera at LaGuardia Airport in New York.
There’s now another incident to add to that list, but at least this time he punch the cameraperson out of self defense.
Harrelson and one of his daughters were at the Top of the Gate rooftop bar of the Watergate Hotel (yup, THAT Watergate Hotel). As per a police report, a man who appeared to be intoxicated had been taking pictures of them. The “Zombieland” star was said to approach the man and asked him to delete the photos he had already taken.
As per the report, an argument began and Harrelson claimed the man lunged at him, “in an attempt to grab his neck.” In self-defense, the actor punched the unnamed aggressor in the neck, the report reads. A witness also said the man lunged at Harrelson, according to NBC News.
The man was questioned in his hotel room, and charges are pending.
