TX GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Allen West “Flicked” Off Man’s Mask At DFW Airport

by SharonKurheg

Another day, another mask confrontation. However this one’s a little different. The catalyst was a candidate for the governor of Texas.

Allen Bernard West is an American politician and retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. He represented Florida’s 22nd congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013 and served as the chairman of the Republican Party of Texas from 2020 to 2021. On July 4th of this year, he announced he was running for governor of Texas, challenging the incumbent, Gov. Greg Abbott.

West was at Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport earlier this week, and wrote the following on Twitter:

A report was made to the DFW police. The statement said West was walking through the airport when somebody “cursed and insulted” him for not wearing a mask.

“After being berated, West responded by flicking the individual’s mask off,” the statement said.

West said in his Tweet that, “there’s no mask law, nothing has ever passed in the US House and Senate making wearing a mask law.” Of course, he’s right that the House and Senate didn’t pass anything to do with wearing masks in airports. That’s because they don’t have to. That’s the TSA’s job. That requirement has been in effect since January 31, 2021 and has since been extended 2 times. It currently doesn’t run out until January 18, 2022.

West is no stranger to not wanting to wear a mask.

The gubernatorial candidate, who is not vaccinated against COVID, was hospitalized with COVID pneumonia in early October this year. He got sick a few days after attending a “packed house,” overwhelmingly maskless fundraising event.

In October 2020, West took part in a protest outside Abbott’s home, criticizing the governor’s executive orders at the time, which included statewide mask mandates and lockdowns, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, more than a few replies to West’s tweet reminded him that touching the other man, regardless if he was yelling at him or calling him names, could be grounds for assault. But we’ll keep our ears to the ground to see if anything comes of that.

Real quality candidates the GOP is fielding in the Texas gubernatorial race.

“… see, nothing happened” Would have been a bit amusing if the guy punched him and said “… see something did happen”
