One of our favorite hotels in London is the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel. We stayed here in 2019 and used Suite Night Awards to upgrade our room to a junior suite in the Chambers Wing.
The best thing about the hotel is that they kept much of the original charm when they did a massive renovation in 2011. A great example was found in the Booking Office lounge and restaurant.
Located in the former booking office for the train station, we loved how the massive arched windows and stonework were showcased while incorporating modern elements. It was a great place to grab dinner and some drinks before heading out for the evening.
I was confused when I saw an article about a new hotspot at the St. Pancras Renaissance hotel called Booking Office 1869.
Over the past months, the restaurant has transformed and now fully embraces the Victorian aesthetic. Additionally, there are now several palm trees and chandeliers around the room, filling the vertical space, which was previously mostly empty.
Out are the modern fixtures and contrasting colors in favor of muted tones, domed light coverings and candlelit tables. One review said the style was “Victorian glamour” and I think that sums it up pretty well.
In addition to the renovation, the Booking Office 1869 has a new chef and bar manager who have totally changed the food and drink offerings.
When the Renaissance St. Pancras reopened in 2011, the King’s Cross area was starting to turn around and looked nothing like it does today. While the old version of the Booking Office fit that time, it was starting to fall behind the current trends. The reimagined Booking Office 1869 fits much better into the trendy neighborhood it now inhabits.
I’m looking forward to getting back to London and I’ll be sure to give a review after we check it out.
