Airlines will never get in-seat entertainment right; there are just too many factors involved, so it’s practically impossible for them to get ahead of the curve. Which isn’t to say they don’t keep trying 😉
Many airlines recommend you download their respective app to stream movies. Delta has that option as well, but it also has a lot to offer via their dedicated Delta Studio seatback entertainment. They supplement typical movies thanks to deals made with multiple major studios, such as Netflix, Spotify, HBO Max, Disney+, Neon, Showtime, A24, etc. They even recently partnered with Peloton to offer aspects of their particular brand at 35,000 feet.
Delta Air Lines and Hallmark have had a partnership for a while and are continuing it this season so the airline’s passengers will have lots of holiday entertainment to choose from.
In addition to its normal holiday collection, Delta features six of Hallmark’s holiday films onboard this season: A Christmas Tree Grows in Colorado, A Nashville Christmas Carol, Christmas Town, Christmas Waltz, The Christmas House, and Love, Lights, Hanukkah!
Hallmark Christmas movies seem to be a “either you love them or you hate them” sort of entity.
Fans of the genre say they’re an “escape” – they’re family-oriented, with no political tensions. As Jen Kirsch said in the Toronto Star, “They’re all about inducing the nostalgia of the holidays, with a sense of warmth, and a feel-good message that no matter who you’ve lost, or what mistakes you’ve made and regrets you have from your past, that you can find love when you least expect it.”
There are plenty of people who could do without Hallmark Christmas movies, as well. People make fun of the plots, the cheesiness, the predictability, etc. (to that end, best comic ever). But hey, haters gonna hate, right? (Full disclosure: I’ve never watched a Hallmark Christmas movie. I’m not a hater; just ambivalent about them, period).
Anyway, the six Hallmark Christmas movies on Delta are above and beyond the airline’s typical Christmas movie fare, which this year includes popular classics such as Scrooged, Elf and Miracle on 34th Street, alongside lesser-known holiday movies such as Last Christmas, Black Nativity and Making of Christmas.
Along with the holiday movie collection, passengers can also listen to Delta’s variety of holiday music playlists while onboard.
The Delta Studio consists of more than 1,000 hours of free entertainment, including up to 300 films on board.
