Remember The Delta Passenger Who Breastfed Her Cat? Wait, There’s More!

a woman holding a cat

Back in late November, an unnamed woman flying from Syracuse to Atlanta decided to breastfeed her cat, mid-flight. On several occasions, a flight attendant told her to stop and put the cat back in its carrier, but the woman continually refused.

A message was sent through the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) to alert the Delta crew in Atlanta that the passenger sitting in seat 13A “is breastfeeding a cat and will not put cat back in its carrier when [flight attendant] requested.”

A photo of the ACARS message made it onto Reddit, and was then later posted on Twitter by author Rick Wilson.

The internet, of course, went wild.

If you Google WOMAN BREASTFEEDING CAT right now, a month and change later, there are about 112 million hits. However several of the recent hits talk about a VIDEO of the woman breastfeeding her cat. That was weird because (A) the event happened a month earlier and (B) there never was a video – just the photo that surfaced on Reddit and Twitter that got shared, well, everywhere.

So what’s up with the video?

It turns out there’s not just one, but FOUR videos surrounding the woman who was allegedly breastfeeding her cat.

If you’ve watched them all, you can see the videos are not authentic – they were certainly not original footage of the woman breastfeeding her cat on a plane. It turned out to be a set of parody videos posted online by an entity known as The Gooch. They’re a Facebook page that hosts a variety of parody sketches, including several other skits that sometimes feature the same actors, props, airplane set, etc.

Besides including “For Entertainment Purposes Only” under each video, they even have a disclaimer:

Please be advised that this page’s videos and live videos are intended for entertainment purposes only. The videos on this page include scripted dramas, satires, parodies, magic tricks, and other forms of entertainment. Names, characters and incidents are often the product of the director’s imagination, so any resemblance to actual persons or actual events is purely coincidental.

But some people don’t notice that part, I guess.

There haven’t been any updates to the “real” woman breastfeeding her cat (at least that I know of) but sometimes parodies are almost just as good.
