We have an upcoming award flight on Delta. With all of the changes to flight schedules, I logged into my SkyMiles account to check if there has been any changes to our flight for which I wasn’t alerted.
I was happy to see our flights were unchanged. I was also interested in a pop-up ad that showed up while the flight information loaded that offered a discount for inflight Wi-Fi.
Saving 20% on Wi-Fi isn’t much but if I know that I’m going to use it on the 6-hour flight to LAX and another 6-hour flight to Hawaii, I might as well pay now and save some money. I went to the website delta.com/wifi, which forwarded me to the Delta Wi-Fi subscription page.
I don’t want to buy a monthly plan for 2 flight segments.
I decided to message Delta for an answer. They weren’t much help.
I see. If the information that you have received was regarding the on-board WiFi, these services are provided by our partners at GoGo. For all inquiries/ comments regarding your Wi-Fi service, please contact them directly by tweeting @Gogo, calling their Customer Care department at 1-877-350-0038 or contacting them via email at customercare@Gogoair.com
The thing is, not all Delta Wi-Fi services are offered through GoGo. Many flights have Wi-Fi service from Viasat. In fact, Viasat charges $5 per flight for service much faster than GoGo ever provided.
This capture from the Delta website is the clearest bit of information about the status of Wi-Fi coverage on Delta flights. If you buy a monthly subscription, you’ll get access through both carriers. However, for a single flight, there’s no guarantee which service you’ll have and therefore lose the ability to prepay and get a discount.
For our flight, I’m hopeful we’ll have Viasat coverage on our 737-900. I’m hoping our 757 flight doesn’t have GoGo’s Ku coverage because then I’ll depend on my iPad to provide entertainment by watching “The Book of Boba Fett” which I downloaded from Disney+.

It is December 2022, and Delta is still posting the same popup ad with no visible option for a discount on the site. I was going crazy trying to find where and how to take advantage of the discount offer, as I only saw the ad while logging in to see my itinerary. I am glad I saw this post, as it is exactly what I experienced. So deceptive.
