I’m Going To Need To Find Another Use For My Hyatt Free Night

a room with a television and a bed

Shortly after I paid my annual fee for my World of Hyatt Visa card, we had a use for our category 1-4 free night certificate. It was one month before our stay so I logged into my account to book a room. That’s when I remembered one of the annoying things when using the credit card free night. It can take up to 10 weeks for the free night to get deposited into your account.

As several readers mentioned, this policy is to make sure you pay your annual fee and do not cancel the card immediately after receiving your free night. Once upon a time, this was something other websites encouraged people to do, saying it’s a way to get 2 free nights while only paying one annual fee.

Banks got smart and now we all have to wait for our free nights. But I didn’t have 10 weeks, I only had four.

I booked a room with 12,000 World of Hyatt points while there was still award space. Then I waited. Every few days I checked my account but nothing happened.

It was the day before the trip when I was confirming the details of our trip that I saw my free night finally deposited in my account.

I went to check the cancellation policy of my room booked with points. I needed to cancel 48 hours before my stay.

I was a day late and a dollar short. I’m not too upset because I’m sure that I’ll find another use for a free night at a category 1-4 property before next March. We might even have to stay at the Orlando Airport Hyatt Regency again.

Still, what were the odds that the certificate was deposited on that exact day?
