When I paid the annual fee for my World of Hyatt Visa card, I received an email reminding me that Hyatt also renewed my Discoverist status.
While Discoverist is the first rung of the World of Hyatt loyalty ladder, it does come with some decent perks. For example, I didn’t know that I was eligible to earn Hyatt points when flying with American Airlines.
Another perk with Discoverist status that I’ve never bothered with before is the reciprocal status match between World of Hyatt and MGM Rewards.
WoH Discoverists are matched to MGM Rewards Pearl and Explorist and Globalist members match to MGM Rewards Gold.
The same goes for MGM Rewards members. Pearl members match to Discoverist and Gold, Platinum and NOIR members match to Explorist.
Both programs max out the match below the highest loyalty tiers which is fair because each program keeps those benefits exclusive to its customers.
Since I have Hyatt status, I started at the Hyatt website. MGM Rewards members start the process on that website.
From there, I only had to log into my MGM Rewards account.
While it says the process can take up to 24 hours, my newly acquired MGM Rewards Pearl status showed up after I logged out and back into my MGM Rewards account.
While MGM Rewards Pearl doesn’t give many benefits, it provides complimentary self-parking at the Las Vegas properties. Since most of them charge $15 per day, that’s over $50 in savings for a 4-night stay. But it’s when you’ve matched to MGM Gold status, when the status becomes valuable as that’s when hotels waive Resort Fees.
