Deal For Turkish Airlines’ Free Istanbul Hotel Stay Is Back

a large building with towers and a blue sky

For years, Turkish Airlines had a really sweet deal – if you were coming from specific destinations, had a roundtrip ticket on their airline to certain countries, and had a layover of 20 hours or more at Istanbul Airport (IST), Turkish Airlines would provide one night in a four-star hotel if you were flying economy class, or two nights in a five-star hotel for passengers flying business and first-class.

More than 57,000 transfer passengers from 42 countries and 108 cities took advantage of the program. However, not surprisingly, the program was suspended during the pandemic. The good news is, it’s back! And they’ve even expanded eligibility!

The country departure points included in the program are all the same as when the program was put on pause: Algeria, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Canada, China, Denmark, Estonia, Ethiopia, Finland, Ghana, Greece, Ireland, India, Iran, Italy, Ivory Coast, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

This year, 15 new country departure points will be added to the program: Argentina, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Mozambique, Nepal, Panama, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Vietnam and Zambia. As of this writing they’re not included on Turkish Airways’ website, but Forbes says it’s in the works.

How it works

As per Turkish Airlines’ Stopover in Istanbul web page, once a roundtrip ticket is bought for any of the departure points above, and to the arrival points listed on their page, you need to send an email to let them know. Include the following:

The email address to send the info to varies, depending upon the departure point – it’s on the bottom of this page. Anyway they need to have this info at least 72 hours before your first flight – in return, you will receive a hotel voucher.

You also have the option to extend your stay of your 1 or 2 nights at a starting rate of $49 per night.

Remember that if you’re from the U.S., you need to have a visa to enter Turkey. You can apply for that via the Republic of Türkiye Electronic Visa System.
