My Theme Park Annual Pass Comes With A Hotel Status Match

by joeheg

There are several ways to use your status with one company to acquire status with another company. Competing brands offer status matches to win new customers, since having status is often the only reason a person stays loyal to a single brand. In other instances, companies can offer complimentary status matches across different products. For example, United elite flyers can apply for Marriott Bonvoy Gold status and Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite members can apply for United Silver status. Finally, brands can offer status matches with equivalent partners, like the Hyatt-MGM and Caesars-Wyndham arrangements.

I knew about most of these opportunities, even if I don’t often use them to apply for status matches. However, I received an offer to upgrade my hotel status from an unlikely source.

I recently renewed our passes for Schlitterbahn Waterpark in New Braunfels, TX. We visit the area twice each summer, so having an annual pass makes sense since it only costs about as much as a 2-day ticket. A few years ago, the park was purchased by Cedar Fair, which is how I’m eligible for this status boost.

An unknown error occurred.

Passholders of any of these Cedar Fair theme parks are eligible for the offer:

Passholders get a one-level status bump. New members or those with no status are moved to Gold Elite. Here’s the breakdown for those who already have Choice Rewards status:

If you are currently a Gold Elite Choice Privileges member, your status will be bumped to Platinum Elite, and if you are currently a Platinum Elite Choice Privileges member, your status will be upgraded to Diamond Elite.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the benefits for each level of Choice Privileges status.

Cedar Fair passholders can apply for a status bump at https://www.choicehotels.com/cedar-fair. The status upgrade will take effect 7-9 business days after the request is submitted and will remain in effect until December 31, 2022.
