Snack Cart: The Most Important Part of the Flight?

If you’re flying in economy, there’s not much to look forward to. However, there’s one sight that brightens up everyone’s faces; the snack cart.

In fact, I associate each airline with a specific snack item.

Delta Airlines

No secret here. I love Biscoff cookies. Why they even offer pretzels as a second option is a mystery to me but amazingly, some people choose those over these amazing cookies.

The unique taste stems from the sugar’s caramelization during the baking process. And a hint of cinnamon and other spices add that special something.

American Airlines also provides Biscoff cookies but I’ll always associate them with flying on Delta.

United Airlines

United Airlines’ introduction of Stroopwafels to the American public has been generally praised. These Dutch treats are available at several US retailers but many people are introduced to them on a United flight, as I was. Granted, they’re not Biscoff cookies, but they’re still good. I’m glad to see they’re now a permanent feature on United’s snack menu.

JetBlue

JetBlue has always been an airline that does things a bit differently. Their snack selection was always forward-thinking, with gluten-free, nut-free and healthy options available long before they became mainstream.

How I miss the Skeeter Nut Free Chocolate Chip Cookies, but the Goodie Girl Brown Sugar cookies are a decent replacement.

Southwest

For years it had been peanuts or pretzels, and now it’s snack mix. Southwest takes it old school with the snacks. Just what you expect in little packages that are almost impossible to open but everyone takes one. You can even get two if you want. Just ask nicely.

Occasionally, Orlando Airport will put out a modern art display in their new Terminal C building called “Lightly Salted” reminding us of the days when Southwest gave out bags of peanuts on board their planes.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I didn’t realize how much I identified each airline with a specific snack. I look forward to the snack cart rolling down the aisle and on the one flight I slept through it, I really felt like I missed out on something special.
