IHG Rewards Premier Cardholders’ Last Chance To Claim United TravelBank Credits in 2022

by joeheg

While the IHG One Rewards program has its positive and negative features, there’s no denying the program’s co-brand cards from Chase are worth the annual fee.

In March 2022, the IHG Rewards Premier card underwent a refresh, adding several bonus categories and, most interestingly, a specific cross-brand promotional offer with United.

IHG Rewards Premier cardholders receive a $25 United TravelBank credit twice a year after linking their accounts.

If you already have a United MileagePlus account, you can link accounts at this website.  Once linking accounts for the first time, they say it can take two weeks for the first $25 to show in your United account. However, I linked accounts this afternoon and the money is already in my account. Here are the details about the credits, including when they get deposited and expire.

Please allow up to two (2) weeks after registration for this benefit for the first $25 deposit of United®TravelBank Cash into the cardmember’s MileagePlus® account. TravelBank Cash that is received as part of this benefit and deposited between January ‌1 and June ‌30 will expire on July ‌15 of the same calendar year, regardless of deposit date. Deposits made between July ‌1 and December ‌31 will expire on January ‌15 of the following calendar year, regardless of deposit date.

There’s a short period of time where you can use the full $50 credit but you’d have to plan to make your reservation during that window.

United TravelBank Cash can be used alone or in combination with other forms of payment to pay for flights operated by United and United Express and certain subscription products. Unfortunately, you aren’t able to use TravelBank funds to pay for the taxes on United MileagePlus award tickets. It’s only good to pay for revenue tickets.

This is free money IHG is giving to IHG Rewards Premier cardholders, so there’s no reason not to link your accounts. If only there was a little more flexibility in how you can spend your funds.

I think that making this credit expire so fast is dishonest! Don’t advertise that you are giving credits with a CC and then pull them back! Possibly as soon as a month later. Ours went in this past May and then they were deleted in July. Typical IHG behavior. They have rapidly become the most dishonest hotel chain!

The terms state when it’s going to expire. The first block is the only one with less than 6 months. After that, you have the full time to use the benefit.

I clicked on the link and it is broken. Do I contact United, IHG, or Chase about this? (I have contacted all three and they are all clueless).
