On my trip to Philadelphia, I had an afternoon departure flying on United. If you don’t have a lounge membership, your choices are very limited since there are no Priority Pass locations at PHL. Fortunately, there’s an American Express Centurion Lounge and this was my first chance to visit since upgrading my card earlier this year.
I was staying outside of Philadelphia so I decided to get to the airport early and check out the lounge for lunch, before my flight.
After returning my rental car, the shuttle bus dropped me off at the entrance to Terminal D. If I had been smart, I would have asked to be dropped off near the lounge. The Centurion Lounge is located in Terminal A West near gate A14 (but it’s actually near the Terminal A East TSA Checkpoint.) It took about 10-15 minutes to walk from Terminal D to Terminal A, all of which is past the security checkpoints.
You have to go up an elevator to the lounge where you’ll find the signature blue door.
By the check-in desk is the green wall.
I used the mobile pass from the AMEX app, so all I needed to show was my boarding pass. The representative told me about the lounge, which isn’t very large. A hallway from the desk has a few chairs and windows looking over the terminal.
For lounge pictures, I don’t like to take a picture of a lounge full of people so forgive me that I don’t have many photos of the rooms and seating areas.
The food was Israeli-inspired with several salads and hot dishes.
It made for a very attractive and tasty lunch.
There was another room behind the bar/food area.
The hallway to the left led to the bathrooms and the single shower room.
My experience in the club was a positive one. However, like all lounge experiences, it depends on when you visit and how crowded the lounge is. The food was refreshed regularly. The bartender was friendly and efficient. When I left to get a refill, my finished plates were cleared.
I’ve read reports that are the exact opposite where the lounge is packed and there are no hot food options.
It was a nice place to grab some food and a drink before my delayed flight home.

I’ve only been for breakfast and to crash after a red eye with a connection. I found the space to be ample with various types of seating.
I was there last month for the first time I can recall. When I got there around 3:30 there wasn’t a line but the check in agent told me it will get packed later so get settled. When I left at 6:00 the line was down the stairs and to the entrance. They get a lot of traffic
