The Elf On The Shelf is a Christmas tradition where a special scout that looks suspiciously like a doll dressed as an elf, is sent to your home from the North Pole to encourage kids to behave themselves. The idea is that Santa’s little helper watches the children by day, and each night, he or she returns to the North Pole to report on whether the children were naughty or nice. In the meantime, many families move the elf each night, sometimes getting him into mischief.
The Elf on The Shelf has seen several real-life knock offs over the years, such as The Mensch on a Bench (“a new Hanukkah family tradition”), Silly McGilly (a leprechaun doll for St. Patrick’s Day season), Troop on the Stoop (for military families), and Adventures of Imam Adam (to teach Muslim children more about Islam).
However, I think the best knock offs are the imaginary and Photoshopped ones dreamed up by those who write for airports’ social media teams. Like these:
