I’ve recently been looking for flights and American Airlines is a possibility for where we’re traveling. However, I actively avoided AA flights to former US Airways hubs before 2020 because the A321 planes on those routes often lacked in-seat power.
The A321s without power were acquired during the merger with US Airways. In 2020, American said they’d complete retrofitting the planes by mid-2022. Then the airline said they’d be done by early 2022, due to an accelerated schedule allowed by the pandemic.
My recent flight from Orlando to Philadelphia was on an A321 with in-seat power. I contacted American Airlines on Twitter to ask how I could find out if their A321 fleet were now fully equipped with power plugs. The response was to check their fleet website.
According to the website, none of the A321 planes have power outlets, which I know isn’t true. In fact, every A321 flight I searched from Philadelphia, Charlotte and Phoenix showed in-seat power. If this is correct, I’ll no longer avoid connections on American to former US Airways hub cities.
Has anyone recently been on an American A321 WITHOUT in-seat power? If not, American Airlines needs to update its website.
