Over the years, various states have legalized recreational marijuana use. With that, cannabis tourism has become a “thing,” with lodging and entertainment entities advertising being “420-friendly” (read: they won’t stop or discourage guests from possessing or consuming marijuana).
Some entities go even further, with complete tours revolving around cannabis. They can include marijuana farm tours, “bud and breakfast” hotels, city tours, food wine & marijuana, cannabis festivals, etc. Forbes reports it’s currently a $17M industry worldwide.
Nevada legalized medicinal cannabis on November 7th, 2000, and full legalization of cannabis (including recreational uses) for ages 21 and up was passed on November 8th, 2016. Since then, users age 21 and over can carry up to an ounce of marijuana for personal use, or up to 3.5 grams of cannabis concentrates or hash, without penalty. There are also no penalties for possession of paraphernalia for those age 21+, and anyone age 18+ with a valid medical marijuana card can also legally purchase marijuana in Nevada.
You can only legally smoke/consume cannabis on private property. However that includes hotels, and Las Vegas is getting ready to open its first cannabis-friendly hotels.
Elevations Hotels and Resorts is in the midst of transforming the 64-room Artisan Hotel into The Lexi Las Vegas. It’s believed to be Las Vegas’ first cannabis-friendly property.
The Lexi is scheduled to debut this spring . It will feature all new guest rooms and suites, which will include, “an entire fourth floor that will be designated cannabis-friendly with each room featuring a state-of-the-art RestorAir filtration system that employs advanced oxidation cell technology,” according to hotel officials.
The “new” hotel will also feature an entirely new lobby, which is being designed for travelers and locals who looking for “a seriously good hang,” hotel officials said. The lobby will offer live music, a water feature, a walk-up cafe for breakfast, cocktail service and late-night snacks.
The Lexi will have a Cajun-inspired steakhouse, run by chef Jordan Savell (he was a contestant on Hell’s Kitchen, during Season 19) and a redesigned Artisan Bar & Lounge.
The hotel will be refreshed and is planned to offer one of Las Vegas’ only European-style (read: topless optional) pool experiences.
Elevations Hotels and Resorts CEO Alex Rizk, who was also responsible for transforming The Clarendon Hotel in Phoenix into a cannabis-friendly property, said, “The Lexi allows the Elevations Hotels and Resorts brand to truly showcase our commitment to creating a new type of hotel concept that is defined not only by our acceptance and normalization of cannabis in the hospitality space, but also by our dedication to reclaim storied properties and transform them for the modern-day travelers.”
“With The Lexi our goal is to provide guests with something truly new in Las Vegas,” Rizk continued. “We plan to personalize the guest experience through our unique Elevations Nation membership clubs, as well as through our distinctive on-property programming, and via partnerships within the community.”
The Lexi, which is located in Las Vegas’ Arts District, will remain open during its transformation/renovation.

“Hey bud, let’s party” Stoners Rule!!
I’d rather stay at a completely no smoking hotel. Next to that, I hope they can keep the cannabis smoking rooms as just that, as long as I can still get a non smoking room, I’m ok. No, I don’t want a room that smoking has been allowed in….period. And all this….i honestly don’t care if you smoke, just do it INSIDE your own home (or hotel room), and far away from me. I don’t even think smoking, cannabis or tobacco, should be allowed in public places. Problem is with all of this, is many people who smoke are rude with no regard for others…..so good luck, hotels!
