Delta made a big deal in 2020 when they started offering metal credit cards to Delta SkyMiles Platinum and Reserve American Express cardholders. I don’t understand the big deal about metal cards. Besides making my wallet heavier, a plastic card works the same as a metal one.
Now that more transactions are contactless, you’re not impressing anyone with the weight of your card. Honestly, I don’t like using metal cards in self-service machines that take your card because I’m afraid it’ll get stuck.
I’m not sure when this happened, and I can’t find a press release about it, but AMEX and Delta now let cardholders choose between a metal card and one that’s made of 70% reclaimed plastic.

Offering a 70% reclaimed plastic card isn’t new for AMEX, as the American Express Green Card switched to reclaimed plastic in 2019.
If you’re looking for an upper-tier co-brand Delta Skymiles AMEX card, you can choose between a metal clunker and a plastic card that helps the environment.
