This Has Got To Be The Most Stupid Piece Of Luggage Ever

by SharonKurheg

I’ve been traveling regularly since sometime around the early 1990s. I had my favorite piece of luggage ever, in the form of a Samsonite Silhouette EZ Cart, and man, that thing went everywhere with me…Japan, England, Paris, Canada and ALLLLLL over the U.S. I loved that bag and even paid to get it repaired as it got older and stuff started wearing out on it.

Eventually, my EZ Cart was sadly beyond repair and when I finally had to get rid of it, I settled on a Victorinox. It’s been serving me well ever since, but I’m always window shopping for the suitcase that could become my next favorite.

In my search, I found this, which has to be, in my opinion, THE most stupid piece of luggage ever:

It’s transparent.

And the only thing I can wonder is what were the designers smoking when they thought this would be a good idea?

I mean, don’t get me wrong, transparent bags are great when you’re going to a sporting event, a concert, etc. After all, it makes it easier and faster for the guards to go through your stuff and to ensure that you’re not bringing anything in your bag that you shouldn’t.

But as a SUITCASE???

It’s bad enough that everyone is going to see what you’ve got. But it means you might want to pack SOOO carefully, because really, who doesn’t want to see my bras and underpants more, me or the rest of the world? Which is to say nothing of when I’m coming home and all that underwear is dirty.

Ew.

Several companies have made transparent luggage over the past 5 years or so, although it doesn’t look like most of them are still making them. Which goes to show just how much of an unpopular idea it is.

So, if you have a transparent suitcase, please share…WHY?!?!?!

And if you don’t own one, what do you think of them? Best idea ever? Or just…stupid?

Possibly designed to discourage theft by showing thieves there is just junk inside. Could backfire.

Stupid piece of luggage I have seen is a cubicle train case. In the 1950’s, people used it to carry toiletries.

Oh, “the Samsonite Train Case” … I got one for high school graduation. Aqua blue, and I got a round “hatbox” to match. The hatbox was about 18″ diameter and had a “wrist strap” to carry it. You could get lots of stuff in it but couldn’t get far with something that heavy on your wrist. After a couple of tries, I ditched the hatbox … totally useless. But the train case had a nifty segmented plastic “tray” that lifted out of the top and that was fairly handy. As for a transparent anything … probably the most stupid ever, for sure.

LOLOL…the plastic tray hit a memory so I looked it up and yep, my parents had the Samsonite Train Case. Hot pink 😉 They had the 2 big pieces of hot pink luggage to match, too. I remember they weighed a ton (this was WAY before wheels on luggage was a thing) and the locks were impossible for a little kid of open. Also a hand bag or shoulder bag or something?

Well nothing replaces your old bag! I’ve got the EZ Cart 25 checked bag. For folks who’ve never seen this, search Google Images for Samsonite EZ Cart 25 & see the Amazon and Pinterest entries. Stack a carry-on on top, easily push it in front of you, roll it up & down curbs & stairs, use it as a dresser after you arrive — hopefully someday Samsonite will re-issue this gem.

Pretty sure I saw one of the players leaving their plane upon arriving to the super bowl with one of these.

Oh my goodness! That really has to be the stupidest piece of luggage ever. I can’t imagine any reason I’d want to advertise the contents of my suitcase.

I’ve been on a never ending search for a solid piece of luggage since 2013. I purchased 2 Tumi bags thinking they were so pricey, they just had to be good. The first soft side case was ripped and stained within the first month of my owning it. I took it back to Tumi where I was chastised for checking my bag. Apparently their bags aren’t meant to withstand the “abuse” of being checked into cargo. Ugh! They sold me on a larger hard shell suitcase which one year later cracked around the wheels.

I’ve been through too many others to count. If anyone can suggest a great suitcase that will last me and isn’t disturbingly transparent, I’d love to hear your suggestion! Please help!

I saw one once getting checked in when I worked at the airport. It contained a lot of lets say adult accoutrements. My agent asked the passenger about it and the response was “Do you like what you see?” Transaction completed in record time.
