Chase Extends Pay Yourself Back Category Until June

Chase introduced the “Pay Yourself Back” feature during the worst of the pandemic. It gave people with loads of points they were saving for travel a way to use them to cancel charges in their largest spending categories, mainly groceries and restaurants.

As things have changed over the past 2 years, so has the value of Pay Yourself Back. Starting in 2023, the categories for Ultimate Rewards earning personal and business cards changed and the bonus for redeeming points was reduced or sometimes eliminated.

I was never interested in the option to cash out my points for expenses, but I told my dad to take advantage of the 50% bonus since his travel plans differed from mine.

I just received an email from Chase reminding me about all of the great features of my Sapphire Reserve card. I usually skim these messages but something stood out. Chase pointed out that the Pay Yourself Back feature for gas station purchases is good until June 30, 2023.

That was news, as the Ultimate Rewards website says the offer is only good until March 31st.

I’m not sure if Chase wanted to announce that the ability to Pay Yourself Back will continue until June and that gas stations are one of the categories, but I think they just did.

If this is a glitch, it’s a big one because we received a similar email from our Sapphire Preferred and it had the same offer.

Pay Yourself Back is here for another three months. We’ll have to wait to see what other categories are included for the Freedom, Sapphire and Ink cards.
